This unique housing project provides 45 properties – of which half are affordable homes for rent or controlled affordable sale with the remainder being open market private homes.
The approach was developed once all the constraints had been identified and evaluated in order to offer a good quality housing scheme.
The brief and subsequent design of the buildings explicitly sought to deliver robust high-quality homes, orientated where possible, to make maximum use of solar gains.
Our design objective was to create a building style that provided a balance between the sensitivity of the existing whilst simultaneously reflecting the future, with an architectural fusion that provided a distinctiveness of its own.
The development provides an active street frontage along the road with the properties orientated around the central landscaped public open space allowing the properties to be inward facing. The open space provides a key central focus for the entire site.
The shape and form of the buildings evolved to specifically address key aspects, based on local traditional buildings being constructed using a sensitive combination of modern and traditional materials.
The design appearance integrates well-detailed buildings with quality social spaces to provide a distinctive place to live.
