What a place to take your first steps of learning in!
A daycare nursery in Cornwall set adjacent to a woodland which is used as part of the early years education within the nursery, located close to a Cornish town. The nursery puts emphasis on outside play so has a landscaped, secure garden with direct access to the woodland with many stimulating environments within it to engage curious minds.
After convincing the planning authorities of the merits of this scheme and the fact that the location offered the opportunity for woodland play, Trewin Design were really pleased to know that this building, within this inspiring location, will excite and enable young children’s curiosity through safe play.
The building was designed to have good access into a secure garden at the rear of the building with glazed doors opening out into a south facing garden from each classroom. Good disabled access needed to be available to all parts of the building.
The building utilises the high performing SIPS system and combined with an air source renewable heating system, makes the building highly environmentally friendly. Renowned for their low maintenance qualities, cedar shakes were used on the walls alongside render. The roof covering is metal profiled sheeting. All materials ensured a highly insulated external envelope with low air permeability.
