Social housing, Scillies style
One of the key comments from the BBC’s “The Housing Enforcers” programme aired on 3 March 2017 for our social housing team was “these are three of the loveliest properties I’ve seen”. Matt Allwright took a trip with Dave Hall from Cornwall Rural Housing Association looking at the provisions that are being made on the Isles of Scilly to sustain a young, diverse community through ensuring quality, affordable housing is provided for the residents.
The beautiful island has many stunning holiday properties available for rent as it is estimated that tourism accounts for 85% of the island’s income, as Matt rightly said “tourism is well catered for on Scilly”. What we are doing alongside our partners at the Cornwall Rural Housing Association is providing quality social housing to ensure local people can stay on the island alongside their families and from what Matt Allwright was saying we seem to have achieved a great balance of affordability and great design.
