Apartment Hotel
The application site is located on a headland overlooking the North
Cornish coastline on the site of a former hotel. The existing character
of the street is defined by the strong sweeping curve of tall victorian
style houses, orientating out towards the impressive sea views.
The form of the building consists of two parallel blocks linked by
covered courtyard / atrium. The ground floor provides a new restaurant
and bar with external forecourt eating and drinking area, and the
main access to the building serving both the restaurant, bar and the
apartments. The first floor (ground floor at the rear) - will provide 2 no.
2-bedroomed apartments and 1 no. 1-bedroomed apartment
overlooking Summerleaze Crescent. The fifth floor - this is a partial
floor level only in that apartment 23 is set at the back of the proposed
building with no built form at the front. Therefore, having regard to the
levels of the site, the proposed new building will appear in the street
scene to Summerleaze Crescent as a 4- storey building. Apartment
23 would be constructed as a light-weight 'top' to the development.
