SLDD Payhendry Building - This new building provides a purpose built education centre for children with learning difficulties. The site is exposed to the prevailing winds and the key design feature creates a central courtyard that will provide shelter and become the heart of the building. The building provides teaching kitchens, animal care, workshops and classrooms. The building is arranged with a two storey wing with an adjoining single storey building wrapping around the central courtyard. The building sits well within the open countryside and provides an interesting aspect to the overall layout of the campus by complimenting the original courtyard at the other end of the campus. The new courtyard works well and provides a pleasant area to sit and has become a social gathering area for students.
