CommunityAshwater Village Hall
|
Trewin Design Partnership worked closely with the proud residents of Ashwater, in North Devon, who have finally opened their new village hall. Built on a site donated by a long-standing member of the Parish, the late Jack Moon. Another stalwart supporter of the project was Torridge District and Holsworthy Town Councillor, the late Des Shadrick — and both men have had rooms in the building dedicated to their memory. The design is flexible and provides a multi-purpose community hall incorporating innovative ground source heating system and photovoltaic cells so that sustainable electricity consumption will keep the environmental footprint as small as possible. The design has been kept simple using features common in a rural landscape. With good views from the main hall the design provides areas of glazing that not only creates a bright, attractive interior but also provides a pleasant outlook over the rolling Devon countryside. Members of the new hall committee have described the hall as "rising like a beacon of hope in difficult times" following more than a decade of dedicated community action.
