Affordable HousingChurch Quay

Church Quay, Bryher, Isles of Scilly for Cornwall Rural Housing Association.

These two new affordable homes built at Bryher were developed by Cornwall Rural Housing Association. The new homes are part of an historic development of the first ever social housing on the off islands of the Isles of Scilly, which also involved the development of three homes on St Agnes and two homes on St Martins.

There is a huge need for affordable housing on the islands and it was a fantastic achievement to obtain funding and deal with the logistics of building in such a remote location.

The houses are based on traditional Scillonian buildings and incorporate both natural slate and pantile roofs (both being used on Scilly). Despite the properties remote and prominent location they are already settling well into the landscape.

The main contractor was SJ Quick and Sons of Hayle with support from MBA Consulting (engineers) and SJH Design (M&E consultants) the principle employers agent and quantity surveyors were Wellers of Redruth.
